Big Step for our little Man
If anyone had asked us a couple of years ago, if we thought we'd ever find ourselves sitting in a Presbyterian church in rural West Virginia, listening to a living history presentation of Robert E. Lee, with a baby boy in our lap, we would've called you crazy. But here we are, and it just feels right. That is how we found ourselves on the eve of Abe's six month mark.
Abe started the day off with a life changing event- his first taste of solids! His first dining experience was considered a success! He put the spoon right in his mouth- but didn't get the whole then remove and have more concept. His fingers also proved a good medium for self-feeding.

A couple weeks ago we headed north to DC for a few days and to spend some time in Connecticut, introducing Abe to many friends, family, and of course his Great-Nana.

We took the train from DC to Hartford. It was a nice change of pace from flying and allowed Abe to sit in our laps, and various other places.

We have a ton more pictures from our recent trip and if Abe starts napping longer, we may get more posted!
Closer
For having been here only a short while, we are already enjoying being closer to both friends and family. My (Sarah here) parents drove down a couple weeks ago for a visit. Grampy Hank (aka Captain Bill) hadn't seen Abe since he was 2 days old- he was amazed at all the changes!

My parents definitely enjoyed the relaxed pace of West Virginia. Though relaxing for them included weeding, mowing, and washing our cars...not that I'm complaining. They still had plenty of time to visit with us, Abe, and check out the local sights.

Watching the fish in Knapp's Creek.

Checking out the CCC museum at Watoga State Park....

...which wore Abe out...

...and Captain Bill.

They also took lots of pictures of Abe.

This past weekend we headed up to Strasburg, VA for our friends' (Dave & Tokya) wedding. It was a beautiful ceremony on the banks of the Shenandoah River, followed by a riverside ruckus that included howling at the moon.

On the way back we did some shopping and bought Abraham a new t-shirt. I now want to buy a dozen of them and dress him in one everyday. Superbaby.....SuperAby!

We'll be visiting with more friends and family in the coming weeks and months- looking forward to it!
5 months old!
Abraham Sawyer Hankens turned 5 months old today. He celebrated by petting our cat Luto for the first time. And by petting I mean grabbing a fist of cat fur and not letting go.
